October Field Trips

We got to join Ben's class for TWO field trips in October. It kinda felt exactly what I always thought being a parent would feel like. 

First, for Fire Safety Week they got to bus trip over to the Fire Station for a visit. It was the first bus ride for Ben since that dreadful one on the first day of school but he did great and had fun. The fireman doing the safety demonstration was actually a yoga student of mine and he did a great job! The kids already knew when to shout "STOP! DROP! and ROLL!" They had been practicing all week. :)

They showed us the big suits. Those things are actually really cool. Did you know they have an alarm on them that goes off if they stop moving? And that the oxygen tanks only give them about 20 minutes of air. No pressure! 

Des wouldn't sit next to Ben, but when they got up to climb into the fire truck he wanted to join in the fun!

And then they got to spray a real fire hose! It was so powerful that a fireman had to help hold it.

They got a group photo in front of the big engine with Sparky the Firepup and all their green fire hats but my phone had died by that time. Boo. They boarded the bus with stickers and smiles. I'm so glad we got to go.

Then a couple of weeks later it was time to visit the pumpkin patch! My friend Mandy and I made a day of it. She greeted me at my house with a pumpkin latte and we got on the road with Des and G. headed to Ada. She knew how to get there so we didn't have to follow the bus. The patch was a realllllly cute one and they had it configured so that two classes stayed together and rotated through all the activities. This kept it really calm and organized and the kids got to have time to do everything. We took a hay ride to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins, watched a cute video on the life of a pumpkin, jumped on 5 HUGE inflatables, pet goats, ponies, and pigs, played on a playground, took a tiny train ride, a played in the barn with tricycle tracks, a treasure dig, and a mini hay maze. Every one had so much fun! Ben said his favorite part was picking out his pumpkin, Des said the bounce houses, and though G. couldn't say, I am pretty sure her favorite part was that the big teacher that had her in her lap didn't fall off the trailer when we hit a huge bump on the hay ride. It was close, y'all.

And then, guess what? My phone died again. It does NOT like to take photos. :) We had a great picnic lunch in the sun and then Mandy and I took all our kids into Ada to eat at McDonalds and play on that playground. They were still so wired from all the excitement but we decided to brave Bath and Body Works to get just a few things before driving home. It was a really fun and exhausting day!
